- The standard reveal (gap between the casing edge and the frame edge) is 3/16" to 1/4". Set a combination square to your reveal measurement and mark a consistent line on all frames before nailing.
- For paint: apply directly -- no knot sealer needed. For stain: hemlock accepts stain evenly with a pre-stain conditioner. For clear finish: sand to 180-grit and apply water-based polyurethane or lacquer.
- Use 2" finish nails into the frame and 1-1/2" nails into the drywall side. Set all nails, fill with paintable filler, and sand smooth before finishing.
